Spiral Toboggan Hat

I used to torture Ryne with scads of these hats.

They are super adapatable because worked from the top down and can be tried on while you work.

Since Ryne has so much hair and a large head it’s geared toward an adult but you can stop at any time for a smaller size.

Materials
– Worsted Weight Yarn
– J or K Hook / (G, H or I Hook – stiffer hat i.e. witch or wizard hat)
– Marker

Chain 2.

Work 4 single crochet in 2nd chain from hook.
(Place marker and move each row)
2 sc in each stitch around – 8
no increases two rounds
(Sc in next st, 2 sc in next st) 4 times – 12
no increases two rounds
(2 sc in next st, sc in next st) 6 times – 18
no increases two rounds
(Sc in next 2 sts, 2 sc in next st) 6 times – 24
no increases two rounds
(Sc in next 3 sts, 2 sc in next st) 6 times – 30
no increases two rounds

Repeat last 2 rounds (increasing by one single sc on each increase repeat) until you have 66 – 84 Stitches. Try on and see how fits. This is also a good place to see if you want it deeper to fit head.

Finsih brim.

Brim Options:

Folded or rolled rim: No increases 6-12 rounds or longer to go over ears.

Faux Ribbing: No increases 4 rounds. Chain 2, (BPDC in next st, FPDC in next stitch) repeat 4 rounds Front & Back Post

Fun Fur (Santa Hat): Work 6 – 8 rows with white fun fun doubled with white yarn.

(To add length without width, add extra no increase rounds)

Top with pom-pom, tassle, knot or bells.

    I was searching for a pattern for an extra long stocking cap to be used for a white elephant Christmas party (it counts – i used the yarn in my stash). I’m sure it will be a hit. Happy New Year
